Directly after the operation, follow-up checks are normally required at weekly intervals to assess the healing process. Usually the patient will be referred to an oncologist about two to three weeks following the operation. The oncologist, after considering all available information about the tumour, particularly the microscopic make-up and condition of the underarm lymph node, will be able to determine which course of supplementary medication may be required as an auxiliary measure. On completion of any oncology treatment, you will be invited to return to your oncologist, at less regular intervals, for thorough follow-up examinations.
